Batalha
On 14 August 1385, the future king of Portugal defeated the armies of Castile at the Battle of Aljubarrota. To thank the Virgin Mary for the victory, King Dom João commissioned the construction of the Monastery of Batalha, Mosteiro da Batalha, in 1386. Its construction took almost two years.
